Louise Francis is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA). She also holds the Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA) designation and is a member of the American Statistical Association.

Ms. Francis is a qualified actuary as defined by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners provides Statements of Actuarial Opinion for approximately ten insurers, captive insurers, and self-insurance trusts.

Ms. Francis is a subject matter expert and exam committee chair for the CAS Institute’s credential in Predictive Analytics: the Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA) designation. She is a former VP of Research for the CAS. In 2014 she received the CAS’s Matthew Rodermund Memorial Service Award for her lifetime contributions as a volunteer.

Ms. Francis is the author of a number of papers on data quality, data mining, and the global financial crisis. Five of her papers were awarded the Data Quality/Data Technology prize by the CAS and IDMA (Insurance Data Management Association).

As an insurance professional, Ms. Francis has expertise in a variety of techniques for pricing, reserving insurance products, and analyzing claims data, both on a traditional and leading-edge basis. Louise pioneered the application of data analysis in insurance. She was a leader in the adoption of predictive modeling methods such as generalized linear models as well as machine learning techniques to insurance data.

Ms. Francis has over 40 years of experience in the actuarial profession. She was the founder of Francis Analytics and Actuarial Data Mining, Inc. where she led educational and practical applied business analytics and actuarial analytics projects in property and casualty insurance. Francis Analytics projects encompassed reserving, pricing, underwriting, reinsurance and claims. Educational projects included leading workshops and seminars and co-developing online courses. Prior to starting her own firm, she was Director and Associate Actuary for CIGNA Property and Casualty, where she provided actuarial expertise to the Claims Division and ESIS, CIGNA’s third-party claims administrator. Ms. Francis has also worked for Tillinghast (now WTW) and F&G Re.

Ms. Francis received her Bachelor of Arts degree from William Smith College and a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
